The way you are saved to eternal life in Jesus Christ is to repent and believe in Him. No one can believe in Jesus by converting to Christianity, then one becomes religious without the Living Jesus by the Holy Spirit inside him. You can be religious without Jesus be aware of this. You can be very intelligent study the words of the Bible teach yourself very well and compliance with the law requirements without Jesus who is the living water of life inside you.

Read in John 3 about what is required. God wants to give you birth on on. Give you a new living spirit instead of your own dead spirit.

You must repent and personally receive Jesus the Son of God

Repentance means softening your heart/mind and looking at the truth about yourself, confessing and forsaking your harmful ways, as evidenced by making a sincere effort to stop doing the things you do that harm people.

Believing in Jesus Christ, God’s anointed Son, means believing that He sacrificed Himself on the cross to pay the penalty for your sinfulness (harmfulness), which is death and separation from God. It also means believing that as God’s own Son, Jesus Christ is also God and is sinless Himself, so that He could pay the penalty for our sins for us, since He did not have to pay it for Himself. And because He is God and death has no hold on Him, He rose from the dead after three days and is now at the right hand of God the Father. When the Lord sees your change of heart and your repentance to believe in Jesus Christ, He will reveal Himself to you; reveals himself to you in a way that is real to you. Then you will truly believe in Jesus Christ, and your new Christian life with the Lord will begin and continue forever. He will enable you to truly live.
