10 Bible Verses About Healing

"A cheerful heart does good, but a broken spirit dries up the bones," is an example of a Bible verse
What does the Bible say about healing and healing? And how is illness mentioned in the Bible? Jesus heals the sick, the Book of Proverbs gives good advice for good health, and the psalmist thanks God for healing. Here is a selection of Bible verses about illness and healing.

1.
"A cheerful heart does good, but a broken spirit dries up the bones."
(Proverbs 17:22)2.
"My son, listen to my words;
incline your ear to my words;
do not let them depart from your eyes;
keep them in your heart;
for they are life to those who find them,
and health to all their flesh."
(Proverbs 4:20-22)3.
"If you will diligently serve the Lord your God and do what is right in his sight, listen to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will not put any of the diseases on you that I have brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord who heals you."
(Exodus 15; 26)4.
"You shall serve the Lord your God, and he will bless your bread and your water. I will take sickness away from you; there shall be no miscarriage or barren woman in your land. I will give you a full measure of years of life."
(Exodus 23; 25-26)5.
"Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
and he saved them from their distresses.
He sent his word and healed them
and redeemed their lives from the pit.
Let them give thanks to the Lord for his faithfulness
and for his wonderful works to mankind."
(Psalm 107; 19-21)6.
"O Lord my God, I cried to you for help, and you healed me." (Psalm 30:3)7.
"You will indeed hear, but you will not understand; you will indeed see, but you will not perceive. For this people's heart has grown dull, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed, so that they might not see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn, and I would heal them." (Matthew 13:14-15)8.
"When they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret. And when the people of that place recognized him, they sent word into all that surrounding region. They brought to him all who were sick and begged him that they might just touch the fringe of his cloak. And as many as touched him were made well." (Matthew 14:34-36)9.
"You know what has happened throughout all Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached: how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power. How Jesus went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him." (Acts 10:37-38) 10. Who believed what we heard? To whom was the arm of the Lord revealed? He grew up before the Lord like a tender plant, like a root out of dry ground. His form had no beauty; we saw him, but we did not appreciate his appearance. He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; he was hidden from us; we hid our face from him; he was despised and we did not esteem him. Yet he took our griefs and carried our sorrows; we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted by God. But he was pierced for our transgressions
and crushed for our iniquities.
He was punished for our peace,
and with his wounds we are healed.
All of us like sheep have gone astray,
we have turned each one to his own way;
but the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
(Isaiah 53:1-6)

SO SHOULD CHRISTIANS SEE A DOCTOR?

Some Christians believe that seeking medical help is a lack of faith in God. And it is often considered a lack of faith and an obstacle to God’s healing if we seek medical help. Some view medical help as an obstacle to using the energy God has given us to heal ourselves. These views lack logic in every way. If your car breaks down, do you take it to the mechanic, or do you wait for God to miraculously fix it? If the water pipes in your house are leaking, do you wait for God to stop the leak, or do you call a plumber?

God can just as easily fix your car or fix the holes in your water pipes as He can heal your body. There is no doubt that God performs miracles and healings, but that does not mean that we should always expect a miracle instead of individuals who possess the knowledge and insight we need to heal us.

Doctors are mentioned several times in the Bible. The only verse that can be taken out of context and thus teach us that we should not seek a doctor is 2 Chronicles 16:12. “In the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa was diseased in his feet, and he was very sick. And in his sickness he did not seek the Lord, but the physicians.” The problem was not that Asa sought physicians, but that he did not “seek.. the Lord.”

There are many verses that speak of using “medical treatment,” such as bandages (Isaiah 1:6), oil (James 5:14), oil and wine (Luke 10:34), leaves (Ezekiel 47:12), wine (1 Timothy 5:23), and ointments, especially “Ointment of Gilead” (Jeremiah 8:22). There is also Luke, the author of Acts and the Gospel of Luke, whom Paul refers to as “the beloved physician” (Col.4:14).

Mark 5:25-30 tells the story of the woman who had a problem with a continuous flow of blood, a problem that doctors could not fix, even though she had been to many of them and had spent all her money. She then came to Jesus, believing that if she just touched the fringe of his cloak, she would be healed; she touched the fringe, and she was healed. Jesus once answered the Pharisees why he spent time with sinners, saying, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick do” (Matthew 9:12). From these verses, the following can be deduced:

1) Doctors are not God, and should not be considered to be. Sometimes they can help, but there are other times when all they can do is take your money.

2) Seeking a doctor and using “earthly” remedies is not something that Scripture condemns. Medical treatment is actually something that is looked upon favorably.

3) It is always important to seek God’s intervention in any physical difficulty (James 4:2; 5:13). He does not promise us that He will answer in the way we want (Isaiah 55:8-9), but we have the assurance that everything He does is done in love and therefore in our best interests (Psalm 145:8-9).

So should Christians go to a doctor?
God created us as intelligent beings, and gave us the ability to create medicines and learn how to repair our bodies. There is nothing wrong with using this knowledge and ability to be healed physically.

We can view doctors as God’s gift to us, and instruments through which God can bring us healing and restoration. At the same time, our faith and trust must ultimately be in God, not in doctors or medicines. As with all difficult decisions, we should seek God, who will give us wisdom when we ask for it (James 1:5).
Amen
