THE LOST SON AND THE OUTDOOR FATHER
"Then he went in himself, thinking" (Luke 15:17).
Yes, he thought about how he could admit and confess his defeat to his father and how he could be allowed to have just a slightly better life than the misery his wrong choice and sad fate had subsequently proved to him. He represents the careless and subsequently calculating human being - THE CALCULATING MAN! He did not think of his father's love. He did not consider at all that everything could get well again. He did not deserve this!
"While he was still a long way off, his father saw him, and he had compassion on him, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him." (Luke 15:20).
Think - before the son had the opportunity to speak his own case, his loving and happy father ran off to welcome his beloved child home again. THE GRACEFUL AND LOVING FATHER showed his true nature. Had the son known his father better, he would probably have hurried home a long time ago to cry at his feet.
When we know our heavenly Father properly, we do not have to wonder how we can do all the good things again - for he himself has done all the good things for us again!
No self-examination or effort can match the love of God's great and rich grace.
Once we can see our own misery and His greatness through His GRACE at Jesus' crucifixion - then we can tacitly accept and just be happy with Him!
